The Process

Porcelain Through a Metalsmith’s Eye

Every piece of GRAMMAR jewelry is individually hand-sculpted in our Michigan studio.

While clay is a centuries-old medium, it is treated here with the precision of a metalsmith. The resulting forms are distinct, lightweight, and highly architectural. Many of the defining shapes in the GRAMMAR archive draw direct inspiration from the mid-century modern buildings of Detroit architect Minoru Yamasaki, translating the scale of the city into intimate forms for the body.

We choose to work in small, intentional batches. This deliberate pace allows for an unwavering focus on the tension, line, and physical presence of every object we create.

Sarah Abend

founder / designer / artisan

After studying fashion, metalsmithing & sculpture, in Detroit, Michigan, Sarah sought a way to combine her skills into something that could be shared and used personally. The result is a jewelry line that focuses on simple forms that communicate a distinctive, refined statement.

"Visual things that we're attracted to communicate our innermost self and identity.  This idea is at the heart of GRAMMAR."
